MultiRace Update to Covid-19 (corona virus)
To our valued MultiRace Family,
Like you, MultiRace has been closely monitoring the news and learning about Covid-19’s (corona virus)
impact on our daily lives and the communities in which we live. We are committed to returning to racing as
soon as possible. We are committed to the health & safety, of those close to us, as our top priority.
MultiRace considers our athletes, sponsors, partners, and staff all part of our extended family and will maintain
the highest safeguards to ensure the well-being of all.
Covid-19 has significantly impacted all our lives, including our sports and leisure activities. MultiRace wants
to reaffirm our commitment in the fight to contain and against the further spread of Covid-19 to keep our
extended family and communities safe.
MultiRace continues to monitor the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and the World
Health Organization (WHO) while working hand-in-hand with local, state, and national health officials and
other governmental agencies. We expect to see widespread effects on the racing industry in the form of event
postponements in the weeks to come. The decision to postpone, modify, and proceed with an event will be
made cooperatively with governmental & healthcare officials on a per-event basis and will primarily factor health
& safety risk assessment as well as available community resources needed to support the events.
MultiRace, working with health & governmental officials, has prepared a series of steps and initiatives designed
to mitigate the risk of spreading Covid-19 in our communities while also providing flexibility & support for our
athletes expecting to participate our upcoming events. These steps are implemented immediately and will
continue until further notice. MultiRace will continue to provide updates and support to our athletes & extended
family as we work together to overcome the current situation.
Pre-emptive Athlete Self-Care:
MultiRace recommends our athletes to monitor their personal health appropriately and not race or travel to any
event if they are unwell. Anyone who is sick or has been exposed to an infectious pathogen must not compete
or attend any event as this places others and their community at risk. MultiRace will continue to communicate
frequently with healthcare officials regarding the assessment, referral, and initial management of any suspected
Covid-19 illness of athletes, staff, sponsors, partners, and spectators.
We recommend all athletes, sponsors, partners, and employees follow the World Health Organization (WHO)
guidelines for basic protective measures against Covid-19:
• Stay home if you feel unwell. If you have a fever, cough or difficulty breathing, seek medical attention and
call in advance. Follow the directions of your local health authority.
• Regularly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash your hands with soap and water,
especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
• Practice good respiratory hygiene. Cover your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or a tissue when you
cough or sneeze. Then dispose of used tissues immediately and appropriately in a bin.
Once events are resumed, MultiRace has further developed the following procedures to maintain the safest
possible experience for our athletes and extended family.
• Athlete density will be decreased by increasing ‘personal race space’ in transition, corrals, etc.
• A ‘no-handshake’ policy will be suggested for both athletes and staff (including awards podium)
• Staff and volunteers with direct contact with athletes will be provided with gloves.
• Communal surfaces that are frequently touched (workstations/electronic devices, product distribution
tables, etc.) will be disinfected regularly.
• Printed documents will only be handled by gloved staff (no self-kiosks)
• Medical education & awareness training regarding Covid-19 and other infectious agents will be provided
to event staff & volunteers.
• More rigorous disinfection of all reusable event equipment (transponder straps, bike racks, and other
athlete shared equipment)
Athlete Support and Flexibility:
For all events that are currently suspended, our goal is to postpone to a later date in the year. We continue to
work with health officials and governmental agencies to determine a safe return date to our event schedule.
MultiRace will be providing a list of affected events that are postponed and any proposed new event dates as
soon as it is practical. Please also check event websites for more information. We have generated the following procedure for affected events and athletes:
• Postponement: Registered athletes for any event postponed due to Covid-19 health agency safety
measures will be automatically transferred to the rescheduled event date. For those athletes that the new
rescheduled event date does not work, we will allow deferrals to the following year.
The current Covid-19 situation continues to be highly dynamic & evolving and MultiRace will continue its
cooperation with health & governmental agencies to ensure the safety of our extended family. We will adapt &
modify our schedule & procedures as warranted by the latest information. Any new information will be made
public on our various social media platforms. We appreciate your upmost patience as we navigate this
unprecedented situation together.
Thank you for your continued support, and we wish you and your families the best in health & safety.... and as
always, Race Happy!
